5Rhythms Class & Workshop Schedule

“Energy moves in waves. Waves moves in patterns. Patterns move in rhythms. A human being is just that, energy, waves, patterns rhythms. Nothing more, nothing less. A dance.” ~ Gabrielle Roth

Weekly Classes - Waves

Kate is currently on sabbatical until summer 2019 in order to complete her Master's in Social Work.

“As we begin to unlock the frozen and forgotten movements in our bodies, so to do our hearts and minds begin to expand in possibility and expression. We begin to break habits and patterns in the way we move and in the ways we have limited ourselves to feel and think. We begin to expand our understanding and expression of who we are.” ~ Kate Huband

In a typical 5Rhythms class, participants arrive 15 minutes early to change into different clothing, go to the bathroom, turn cell phone off, etc. At 7pm you’re on the floor with Kate. The first 15 minutes is spent moving and arriving into our bodies - usually with gentle guidance from Kate. At 7:15pm Kate starts a body part meditation (i.e. going through our body parts one at a time through movement). It's about coming back into our bodies and remembering “oh yes, I have a foot, a knee, an ear, etc.” After about 30 minutes, Kate will offer up a specific theme or nugget of the 5Rhythms philosophy, perspective and practice to be explored. Each of the 5rhythms is a teacher and you can expect to meet different and sometimes unknown aspects of yourself as your dance unfolds and your practice deepens over time. The 5Rhythms practice is rooted in the principle that if you put the body in motion it will heal itself. Movement is both the medicine and the metaphor, reaching across all languages and age groups to transform suffering into art, art into awareness and awareness into action.
